North American lumber production decreased by 5%

After declines of 4% and 6% in the first and second quarters of 2019, in the third quarter North American lumber production decreased by 5% comparing to 2018 to a total of 34.662m m³. 


68.6m m³ of damaged wood expected in Germany in 2019

Increased Harvesting volumes in Germany

An increasingly higher amount of damaged wood in Germany in 2018 led to a 20.3 % rise in timber felling to 64.362m m³ in comparison to 2017.


Beech roundwood exports to China dropped significantly

During the second half of 2018, German beech logs exports to China decreased significantly. While in the first two quarters export volume was at 155,325 m³ and 154,917 m³, beech logs exports to China surpassed the comparative figure of the previous year by 18% and 24% respectively, exports in the third and fourth quarter demonstrated along negative lines.


Growth in prices for coniferous round wood in Estonia

In January 2019 prices for coniferous sawlogs in Estonia were higher than a month before. The Estonian forest administration RMK of Tallinn in its monthly price statistics registered the greatest increase in pine with a top-end diameter of less than 18 cm at the level of 10.1%

Exports ban in Ukraine can be extended to firewood

On 16 January 2019, members of the Ukrainian parliament petitioned for an export ban on firewood. The draft law “On the protection of the Ukrainian forests” implies a moratorium on exports of firewood.


Beech exports to China fell down by 11% in 2018

The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) states that in the third quarter of 2018 beech lumber exports from Germany to China decreased by 11% in comparison to the previous year to a figure of 38,227m³. Generally, exports from Germany to China were represented by long-term contracts directly with China processors.
